Chorus

Chorus meets once a week for 45 minutes. The entire grade meets together to learn, rounds, partner songs, and choral music to perform at two concerts during the school year. One concert is in January and the other is in June, the specific dates of each concert can be found in the

3rd Grade

Third Grade Chorus is the students first experience with a performing ensemble. The students learn very easy rounds at this level to inroduce part singing. Rounds are very short songs that can be sung with overlapping parts. The classes take turns singing the song as either the first, middle, or last section. We also work on easy choral pieces with just one melody line. They learn different styles of choral music while adding some popular music in as well.

4th Grade

In Fourth Grade Chorus the students are continuing their work as a singing ensemble. We continue working with rounds, but moving on to medium difficulty. The rounds have different tonalities instead of just the major scale. Also, the entrances of the groups is more difficult and the songs are longer. We usually add in the recorder to the spring concert. The choral music we sing is also more advanced with some classes singing different parts and adding harmony to our music.

5th Grade

The Fifth Grade Chorus moves on to difficult rounds where they sing in major, minor, and modal tonalities. The students help out in choosing songs for our concerts from modern popular music and sometimes students are asked to accompany a song on an instrument they know how to play. We sing some two part choral music to add harmony into our singing and to prepare them for Middle School Chorus if they so choose to continue in the future.
