KINDERGARTEN

Here are some of the songs the Kindergarteners are working on in class.

Echo songs: The children imitate the teacher's voice by echoing after the teacher.

Sea Lion                                            Green Grass Grows                  Wise Old Owl                    I Met a Bear

Simple Songs: The children are asked if they would like to sing these short songs as solos

               Clair de Lune                        Peep Squirrel

Fingerplays: Songs where the children learn hand motions to go with the song and help with inner listening

Once was a Turtle                         Here's a Nest                              Do Your Ears Hang Low?

                     Pumpkin Pie

Middle of Class Movement: About 14 minutes into class the students listen to a piece of classical music and move expressively to the music. The teacher leads them in the movement and the students follow. This gives them a foundation of movement that they will use later in elementary school.

Keeping the Beat: Students practice keeping a steady beat through movement and instrument playing. With an instrument one student will keep the beat at a tempo of their choosing, slow, medium, or fast and the rest of the class will sing the song at the soloists tempo.

Hickory Dickory Doc                        Pity My Case                         William he has Seven Sons

The class ends with a story song where the children don't sing and practice good audience skills and listening. It is also a time for the students to wind down for their transition back to the classroom. The songs are sung by the teacher for the students and are usually folk songs with a story such as: "There's a Hole in the Bucket" or "Froggie went Courtin'".
